The first ordinary AGM of Destination Viking will be held in
Haugesund in Western Norway 17-18 November 2008
(arrival 16th, departure 18th or 19th).
At this meeting, there will Also be a conference where well-known speakers will present important new developments within the framework of the Destination Viking concept.

These include:
Marit Synnøve Vea – Director for the Avaldsnes Project – and speaking about the establishment of a Viking farm and a visitor centre at Avaldsnes, the first royal residence of Norway
Jimmy Moncrieff – Manager of Shetland Amenity Trust - and speaking about the new Shetland Museum and how the Viking heritage is now presented on Shetland
Rögnvaldur Gudmundsson – Director of a tourism research company, Director of the Icelandic Saga Trail Association, and formerly the tourism director of the town of Hafnafjördur – speaking about the capitalization of the Sagalands and NORCE projects through the Icelandic Saga Trail Association
Anne-Karin Misje – Director of Gulathing project – talking about the Nordic Thing Sites network and their efforts to link all Thing sites as a World Heritage
Allison Fox, Manx National Heritage - the story of the new Viking gallery at the Manx Museum

Conference venue
The conference will take place at Nordvegen History Centre the first day (17 November), with a Viking feast at the Viking farm in the evening, while the 2nd day (18 November) will take place at the hotel in Haugesund.
Accommodation
Rooms have been reserved at Rica Maritime Hotel, Haugesund at a special rate (which includes breakfast). Participants will have to pay the hotel themselves, but lunches 17 and 18, and dinner 17 will be provided by Rogaland County Council November. Meals on other days are on your own.
How to get to Haugesund
Haugesund is located in the County of Rogaland, in SW-Norway. There is an international airport, with direct flights to Copenhagen and London Stanstead, there are also frequent flights connecting into Norway’s main airport: Oslo Airport Gardermoen.
Haugesund is also close to Stavanger with its own international airport. The express bus between Stavanger and Haugesund takes 2 hours and leaves every 2nd hour from Stavanger City Centre (and links with the airport bus from the airport).
